Ivan Assenov is the Chief Technology Officer of FYX Gaming, which built CryptoFights, the most-played game on the BSV blockchain with a transaction volume that rivals that of BTC and Ethereum combined.

“[CryptoFights] is a play-to-earn game. It’s very unique because it’s the gateway to the metaverse; we are building a lot of interesting stuff using the traditional Bitcoin protocol with proof-of-work,” Assenov explained, “which gives you the authenticity and validation without jeopardizing the decentralization and the power-grabbing from a few players out there.”

FYX Gaming knew of potential AWS savings, but was too busy scaling to keep up with customer demand – a surging membership of over 50,000 players and a daily on-chain transaction volume in the millions — to apply them. As a result of this unprecedented growth, FYX Gaming's EC2 usage fluctuated and they weren't certain which instance families and volumes they wanted to use going into the future, a common pain point faced by fast-growing companies.

Without Usage.AI, FYX Gaming would have had to wait weeks in between messages with an account manager. The whole process could take months.

“We probably would have to…send another bottle in the ocean with a message [to AWS support], wait a couple weeks,” Assenov said.

The FYX Gaming DevOps team knew of Reserved Instance and Savings Plans that could be made, but wasn’t comfortable committing to a 1 or 3 year term. Going all-in on 3-year RIs would've meant the highest possible savings, but the greatest possible risk of overcommitment. On the other hand, going with the much more conservative 1-year Compute Savings Plan was a good option, but the savings were very low (27%)!

With Usage.AI, FYX Gaming gets the best of both worlds: they can get the high savings of 3-year no-upfront RIs with the flexibility of on-demand because of Usage AI's Flex RIs. On top of that, FYX Gaming doesn’t need to visit the AWS console to get these savings; Usage automatically manages and applies RIs for them.

As a result, FYX Gaming reduced their EC2 bill by ~50% for zero work after the initial 5-minute setup.

Assenov said he would recommend Usage.AI to peer companies who use lots of cloud, power, and hardware.
